TYU aims to be a place of enriching and challenging opportunity for young theatre makers.
We place a high value on creating a friendly, supportive and respectful family at each camp and within the wider TYU community. Young people from all over Victoria have been attending TYU camps since 2008.
During this camp the participants will be led by a team of directors and other creative artists to work towards the three public performances of The Grumpiest Boy in the World by Finegan Kruckemeyer at the West Gippsland Arts Centre (WGAC), in Warragul. Our Leadership Team this year includes Sarah Hartnell – Performance Coordinator and Eliza Bain – Production Coordinator, and Joanne Watt – Camp Coordinator, with the directorial and production teams soon to be confirmed.
About our week: Whilst in Melbourne we will catch a show together at Arts Centre Melbourne and stay the night at Urban Camp. After workshops on Sunday 12th we will travel by V-Line* to Allambee Camp, near Yarragon, which will be our home for the rest of the week. From Monday morning each day will be spent at WGAC, with workshops including casting process, script work and character development, followed by rehearsals for The Grumpiest Boy in the World. Public performances will then be held in the 200 seat Theatre 2 as shown above. On Monday 20th we pack up at Allambee Camp and say goodbye to our newly found friends – until next time at least!
This TYU Summer Performance Camp is suitable for young actors (aged 14-22) with previous performing arts experience through community theatre, education settings or learning in the private sector. We are able to host a maximum of 40 participants so get in quick!
We can offer this amazing experience at such a low price thanks to the generous leaders who volunteer their time and skills, and with the support of The Victorian Drama League Inc., Bendigo Bank’s Trafalgar and District Community Bank, Baw Baw Shire Council, Arts Centre Melbourne and West Gippsland Arts Centre. Please note, the full attendance fee must be received by December 20th, 2019. Some scholarships of up to $250 are available to subsidise the costs for participants on a case by case basis. To apply for these subsidies the Participant is required to write a Statement of Interest and provide a character reference or letter of support from their drama teacher or community theatre leader/director. Please refer to the Registration Form and then contact the Camp Coordinator if you require further information.
