Author: Dylan Coburn Gray
Director: Shirley Sydenham
Genre: Drama
Agent: Nick Hern Books
Synopsis
Citysong is a play but is also a lyrically poetic ode to modern day life in Dublin. The play is a chorus of voices showing us three generations of a Dublin family on one day, and it turns out one day holds the entire past.
There are teen discos, late night taxis, home nurses, Jewish launderettes, vigilantes, babies, immigrants, seagulls , bars etc.
Citysong is intimate and sweeping, cerebral and compassionate, and it’s also joyous and ridiculous. It’s a modern day Dublin’s Under Milk Wood which requires an ensemble cast of 6 actors , who will inhabit a multitude of different characters throughout the play , all linked by the narrator who will guide us all through Dublin’s fair city.
Citysong will be a World amateur premiere, and indeed an Australian premiere.
Characters
Characters Summary:
A multitude! All played by a team of 6 actors.
Final selection would ideally be a bit of a mix of gender, age, ethnicity.
Citysong is a play for voices, a lyrical ode to modern day life in Dublin. The play is a chorus of voices showing us three generations of a Dublin family on one day - and it turns out one day holds the entire past.
Characters Description:
The ability to do a good Irish accent is an absolute must, as is the ability to quickly take on diverse characters including teens, gossips, old lady and her younger self, middle aged men, anxious mums and more, regardless of gender. There will be quite a bit of movement, probably on different levels ... however, if you have a physical disability, as long as you can do the accent and characters, the Director is very happy to have a conversation.
