Synopsis
Based on a true story, four men are sailing to Tonga when their boat overturns in a storm and they spend the next 119 days adrift. Flipside tells the story of what the men went through and then what happened after.
Their survival story is told as a flashback throughout the play. The present day features two of the former ‘shipmates’, as one keeps a bedside vigil to the other who is dying. There are elements of this journey between the two of them that echo what they endured with the others on the boat.
Over the course of the show, the four men confront the elements, each other, and themselves.
Characters
Characters Summary:
John (M, late 40s+)
Rick (M, late 20s – early 30s)
Characters Description:
John (M, late 40s+)
Captain of the boat, stubborn, pragmatic, not so much over-confident but laid back at times.
Rick (M, late 20s – early 30s)
Rick is vibrant in the past scenes on the boat, but weak and fading in the present scenes with Jim. Transitions between past and present and back again happen very quickly, so there are more physical demands here than with the other roles.

This production was due to take place in 2020 but was unfortunately postponed. Since then, the two below roles have become vacant, which we are looking to fill.
Routine rehearsals will be 7.30–10.00pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and 7.00pm–9.30pm Sunday evenings.
Actors need to be able to commit unconditionally not only for an entire performance season but also for all scheduled rehearsals at which their attendance is required.
