Synopsis
Set in the deceptively idyllic, west Irish countryside, this is a darkly comic tale of Maureen Folan, a lonely spinster in her early forties, and Mag, her devious ageing mother. Mag’s interference in her daughter’s first and only chance of love starts a chain of events that lead inexorably to a tragic result.
This powerful work from Martin McDonagh won the 1998 Drama League Award for Best Play and the 1998 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Broadway Play.

Characters Description:
• Mag Folan (Female, playing 60s+): Controlling and manipulative character, entirely dependent on her daughter. Old-fashioned, set in her ways and perpetually disapproving, she “gets confused” easily, despite the impression of vulnerability she gives, she notices a lot and is skilled at pushing people’s buttons.
• Maureen Folan (Female, playing early to mid-40s): Mag’s long-suffering caretaker/daughter, who has “only ever kissed two men,” and is desperate for more excitement, longing to escape both Leenane and her mother. Lonely, angry, and bored, she nevertheless displays the same wilful and malicious nature as her mother.
• Ray Dooley (Male, playing early to mid-20s): Restless, bored soap opera addict, and hapless messenger for his brother, Ray. Like Maureen, he dreams of seeing the world outside Leenane and have more fun.
• Pato Dooley (Male, playing early to mid-40s): A charming construction worker visiting home from working in England and is attracted to Maureen. Pato is positive and easy-going, yet still dissatisfied with where he is in life and is looking to settle down.

AUDITION DETAILS
Audition format: You will be asked to read one or more scenes from the play. The scenes will be provided at the audition. Be prepared to stay for a couple of hours if needed.
• To register for an audition, please email the director (divcollins@gmail.com). In your email nominate the session that you wish to attend and the part(s) you are interested in.
• Each accepted audition applicant will be emailed an audition form to complete. It would be helpful if the completed form is emailed back prior to the audition
• We request each auditionee include a named, recent photo (passport-size is ideal) in the email with your audition form, or when you attend the audition.
