Synopsis
The play, set in New York City and California. Is a light-hearted look at love and marriage in suburbia, which centres on betrothed couple Chuck and Gail, and their respective best friends Jay and Bonnie, who dislike each other so intensely that their eventual romance is all but preordained. Chuck is so smitten with Gail that he makes up stupid rhymes like “perfect life and perfect wife.” Jay on the other hand is less smitten with feminist, vegetarian, Bonnie. After their first meeting he remarks that he has experienced “…an overwhelming rush of instant contempt.” Things don’t always work out the way we expect and the twists and turns in these two relationships are definitely a unique look at the institution of marriage.
